The Cardiff City Bluebirds have won the Welsh Adran Premier League – a victory Caymanian footballer Molly Kehoe shares in after her historic signing with the team 10 months ago.
Kehoe, 19, is considered to be Cayman’s top football player – male or female – and after her performance with Cardiff City – securing nine goals and seven assists during the UK season – she has positioned herself as a key player for the Bluebirds.
It’s a journey that took major sacrifices but one that Kehoe wouldn’t change, noting to the Compass that leaving home wasn’t easy.
“Signing with Cardiff was a big step I had to take from playing in Cayman,” Kehoe said. “I know I had to do it if I wanted to get somewhere with football.
“The level is much higher. Physically and technically, the pace of the game and everything really. But I’m looking to get to a much higher level in the next few years.”
Cardiff captured the league title after defeating Swansea City 4-0, on 27 March, during the playoffs. Following that match, the Bluebirds went on to win their final match of the season on 7 April., beating Wrexham 5-1.
While she continues to strive for success internationally, Kehoe has already won more than 10 football titles as an amateur in Cayman and now she can add professional championship to her resume.
She said winning the Welsh Adran Premier League for the second straight year was a testament to her squad which was stacked with talented and motivated players.
“Winning the league in my first season with Cardiff and to contribute to their second consecutive year of being champions means a lot and I have to be proud of myself,” Kehoe said.
“We have a lot of depth in our team. It’s not only the starters that are good players, but we also have great players coming off the bench too. We often have to fight for our spot in the starting 11.”

Outside of continuing to represent Cayman on the national team for upcoming tournaments, Kehoe said that she is happy at Cardiff and hopes to re-sign for the next season.
“My plans right now are to hopefully stay with Cardiff, with goals of defending the title we’ve just won,” she said, adding that she is “looking forward to playing Champions League football again”.
