Burger King Cayman Women XVs rugby team returned home victorious after going undefeated at their first Ruggerfest DC XVs tournament held 13-14 April in Reston, Virginia.
The Cayman women won all four of their games in dominant fashion on the way to being crowned champions.
“Thrilled with the level of rugby that we displayed throughout the tournament,” head coach Katy Bayles said. “We were able to showcase real attacking flair, culminating in a final where we executed perfectly. I’m very proud to coach a team that is able to play this style of rugby.”
The Cayman women first played DC Furies, who they defeated 61-0. Then Cayman beat NOVA 35-0.
The following day, Cayman took on the Pittsburgh Forge in what proved to be a tough, physical match in which they prevailed 27-17, guaranteeing their place in the final.

In the final against the Norfolk Storm, it was all gas and no brakes for the Cayman women, whose relentless, attacking play secured a 55-0 win and the tournament title.
“As a coach I am thrilled with the rugby that we played, our support for each other and the platform and expectation to win that we have set for the rest of the year,” Bayles said.
Mercedes Foy, the Cayman women’s rugby manager, noted to the Compass that their programme has come a long way in the past three years and thanked all the sponsors and coaches who made it possible.
