Two men were arrested after a loaded firearm was seized by police from their vehicle during a traffic stop in George Town, which also ended in the arrest of a third man for driving offences.

Details of the seizure of the weapon were released by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service on Sunday 5 May. The RCIPS statement said officers had cause to stop and search two vehicles that appeared to be travelling together.

“The vehicles eventually came to a stop on Mary Street in the vicinity of McFeild Lane and after interacting with the drivers of both vehicles, it became apparent to the officers that the men were intoxicated,” said police.

According to the statement, police went on to search both vehicles, which resulted in the discovery and seizure of a firearm.

“As a result, the two men travelling in this vehicle, ages 24 and 27, both of West Bay, were arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm,” said officers. “Both remain in custody pending further investigation.”
