For the third successive day, legal arguments were heard between lawyers and the judge presiding over the rape trial of former Speaker of the House McKeeva Bush in the Grand Court on Wednesday.

A jury has yet to be selected for the trial, expected to last 10 days once a jury is chosen. Dozens of jurors remain on standby to find out if they will be chosen for the panel.

The legal arguments were heard in chambers in the courtroom but in the absence of jurors, members of the public or media.

Last week, jurors were handed questionnaires to determine if they knew Bush or any of the witnesses expected to give evidence in the course of the trial.

When potential jurors returned to court Monday, they were informed by visiting Justice Roy Jones that they would be contacted by phone to let them know when to come back to court, while he, the prosecution and the defence counsel discussed “administrative” matters.

By Wednesday, the case before the jury had still not begun, but reporters were informed that jurors would be called back to court on Thursday.
