Among the four Cayman junior medallists at the annual Caribbean Area Squash Association Tournament was Kaylee Pierre, who secured the first gold medal for Cayman in seven years competing at that event.
The tournament, held in the British Virgin Islands earlier this month, featured Pierre, 12, taking the win in the under-13 individual category after three matches in the finals against Barbados.
Pierre dominated her Bajan opposition in a 3-0 clean sweep; she was down in the second match 4-9 but fought back to win 11-9.
“I couldn’t be more proud and happy of this achievement,” Pierre said.
With the win, she becomes the first female to win gold since 2007 and Cayman’s first gold medallist since 2017.
Also making the podium for Cayman were Jonty Rogers, Milanna Lamontagne and Ylon Chambers.
Next up for the Cayman national team is the CASA Championships, taking place from 17-25 Aug.
