A cyclist was killed and a motorist arrested following a fatal collision in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police and other emergency services were called to the scene of the crash on Esterley Tibbetts Highway near Pinehurst Road at around 12:05 this morning.
According to the RCIPS, the cyclist, a 22-year-old male Nepalese national, who lived in West Bay, was travelling north along Esterley Tibbetts Highway when he was struck by a Honda HRV travelling in the same direction.
On arriving at the scene, officers observed the cyclist unresponsive and he was given CPR, according to a police statement released on Saturday afternoon. The victim was then transported by ambulance to George Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
Driver arrested
The driver of the Honda HRV, a 24-year-old woman of West Bay, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and transported to the detention centre, where she remains in custody.
Police expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and are appealing for anyone who might have seen the collusion or have any other information to contact them on 649 6254.

Record number of crashes
Earlier this month, police warned that traffic accidents were at an all time high, with an average of 66 collisions a week over the year. In October, there was an average of 73 crashes a week.
Just last month, 32-year old Indian national Nikhil Rajput was killed when he was hit by a car while walking to work.
