Jordan Crooks, the reigning king of sports in the Cayman Islands, added another gem to his crown, winning bronze at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships in Budapest.

This result marks the second time he has made the podium at those games.

Crooks, 22, hit the pool for the 100-metre freestyle final on Thursday, 12 Dec., touching the wall at 45.48 seconds, behind Guiherme Santos in second (45.47) and Jack Alexy, in first (45.38).

It’s the second time that Crooks has captured a medal at the short course event – the first time was in 2022 when he won gold in the 50m free.

The third-place finish in the 100m final further established him as one of the best swimmers off the turn.

In fact, in winning his heat on Wednesday, he touched the wall a blink away from a world record, finishing in a time of 44.95 seconds – a new championship record and .11 off the world record.

Jordan Crooks congratulated by sister Jillian and schoolmates from the University of Tennessee after his 100m final.

That time in his heat also tied him for the third fastest short course swimmer in history behind Kyle Chalmers (44.84) and Amaury Leveaux (44.94).

Crooks’ swimming career thus far has been nothing short of phenomenal, from becoming the first world champion for his nation in 2022, to the Olympic finals in Paris, dominating the collegiate yards and now another world championship medal.

He’ll be hoping to make more history on Saturday when he competes in the 50m free – his preferred event and one he excels most in.

Crooks will compete in heat 10 of the men’s 50m free at 4:30am. The semi-finals for that race will take place at 12:20pm later that day.
