The University College of the Cayman Islands announced on Wednesday that its president and CEO Robert Robertson will be stepping down from his role after two-and-a-half years as head of the institution.
According to a press release issued by UCCI, Robertson is leaving “to pursue new professional opportunities”.
Earlier this week, UCCI announced that Robertson had been reappointed as a senior research fellow at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies at the School of Advanced Studies at the University of London. The appointment covers the 2025-2026 academic year.
The university college says it is now looking to recruit a new president.
Describing his time as UCCI’s president and CEO as a “privilege and an honour”, Robertson, in the release, thanked the faculty and staff of the university college “for the wonderful opportunity to work with such a dedicated and talented team focused on serving our students”, as well as the board of governors for its “leadership and guidance”.
Robertson noted in the release that, during his tenure, UCCI had seen the “expansion of academic partnerships and programmes, deepening relationships with community partners, and advancing sustainability and innovation across the institution”.
It had also achieved institutional and professional reaccreditations, implemented a new student information system, completed a campus master plan and sustainability plan, and successfully completed the RESEMBID climate change and resilience grant, which assisted UCCI in developing its brand as a leader in environmental and sustainability efforts regionally and globally, the release noted.

“In addition, significant efforts were made to support faculty and staff in upskilling to meet the emerging challenges impacting the education sector,” the statement added.
Chairman Gilbert McLean, on behalf of UCCI’s board of governors, in the release, wished Robertson well “as he moves on to other opportunities” and thanked him for his service.
Last week, it was announced that Robertson had received the prestigious accolade of being named a Fellow of the City and Guilds London Institute. The fellowship, the highest honour bestowed by the 140-year-old British charity, recognises individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional and personal achievements in skills development, workplace training and workforce readiness initiatives.
Fewer than 1,000 of the fellowships have been bestowed worldwide.
Robertson, throughout his career, worked as an educator and academic administrator in the Bahamas, Canada, the United States, Slovenia, Kazakhstan and Vietnam before moving to Cayman to take up his role as UCCI president in October 2022.
