Literacy Is For Everyone, better known simply as LIFE, reached a significant milestone recently when it made the donation of its 100,000th book to the Cayman Islands community.

“This milestone is a reflection of the power of community and collaboration,” said Woody Foster, chair of the board at LIFE.

“Every book donated represents an opportunity for a child to develop a love of reading and build foundational literacy skills that will benefit them for life.”

The achievement reflects LIFE’s ongoing commitment to promoting literacy and lifelong learning by ensuring every child has access to age-appropriate, engaging books. The initiative is grounded in the conviction that access to high-quality books fosters educational success and empowers children to reach their full potential.

Since launching its book donation efforts in 2012, LIFE has helped establish classroom libraries in every government primary school across the Cayman Islands. In addition, LIFE continues to supply books to several school libraries, helping to maintain a rich and diverse selection of reading materials for students.

Thousands of families have also received books through LIFE’s programmes, supporting the development of home libraries and encouraging parents and caregivers to foster a culture of reading at home.

“The 100,000-book milestone marks a significant step toward a more literate, informed and empowered community,” said Erin Galatopoulos, book donations coordinator at LIFE.

“Rather than distributing books individually, we focus on placing them in early childhood centres and school libraries, classrooms and homes to create shared learning environments.

“This approach ensures that children can access a diverse range of reading materials, far beyond just their own.

“Access to books is vital — it sparks imagination, fosters a love of reading, and gives every child the chance to learn, grow and reach their full potential, regardless of their background.”

LIFE works in partnership with educators, donors and volunteers to ensure that quality books continue to reach the hands of young readers across the Cayman Islands.
