GRAND CAYMAN, JULY 11, 2025 – The winning artworks of students taking part in the second annual BAF Youth Art Competition will be featured in the insurance company’s 2026 calendar.
The competition ended with a grand exhibition of artwork of 56 students from across the Cayman Islands on Wednesday, 18 June, at the George Town Yacht Club.
The competition, under the theme ‘This is Cayman Culture’, was open to students in two categories, ages 6-10 and 11-15. Winners received cash prizes and a space in the prestigious Carlos V. Garcia Fine Art Gallery.
The top 13 artworks will be featured on the 2026 BAF calendar.
This year, the top prizes were awarded to Cia-Kay Simpson from Layman Scott High and Kristiana Salazar of Creek and Spot Bay Primary, both in Cayman Brac. Second and third places went to Jasmine Bodden and Zara Majid in the 11-15 category and Nissi Theophilus and Amanda Dsouza in the 6-10 category.
Special certificates for outstanding creativity were awarded to Aubrey Welcome, Jemima Kendall, Trey Miller-Ebanks and Taj-Malik Copeland.
In his remarks, BAF Managing Director Julian Rolle congratulated all the students and pledged to create more opportunities for young artists.
“We have a similar competition in the Bahamas,” he said, “and I believe that the winners of both the Bahamas and Cayman competitions should meet each other and we’re going to work towards making that happen for next year.”
He promised that the 2026 calendar featuring the top 13 artists would be ready and presented to the students and their schools in November when he returned for the company’s annual Dance for Diabetes event.
Vernice West, General Manager of BAF Insurance Cayman, commended the parents and teachers who support their children’s talents and noted that more entries were received this year than the previous year.
“After a successful first year, we eagerly anticipated this year’s entries, and we were not disappointed. The display of talent is truly amazing. The future of art in the Cayman Islands is in good hands,” she said.
