School hallways were transformed into collages of imagination as early year students at Cayman International School showcased their budding artistic talents in a special exhibition last week.

From abstract pieces to detailed portraits, the exhibition was a testament to the creativity of the CIS students, with pre-K through primary school artists exploring different techniques and materials.

This year’s theme, ‘The Little Islanders: Our Cayman, Our Home’, focused on the heritage of the islands. The children have been listening to Cayman music, reading Cayman stories at morning message time, and the teachers have really embraced this theme,” Anna Haydon, early childhood programme coordinator and pre-K teacher, told Compass TV.

“In 2019, we moved over to this new purpose built-facility, and we took some traditions with us over in this building, but we wanted to start something new. So in 2019, we made up the, ‘Little Kid, Big Art’ show … with all 170 students we have participating,” Haydon said.

Not only were the teachers enthusiastic, she said, even the youngest artists were thrilled to share their creations with the world.

Pre-K classmates Mia Morel and Kaius Moxam spoke of their excitement over their creations, with Mia explaining she painted a conch shell and other small shells which she glued to a board. Asked about his creation, Kaius said, “I love turtles” and that he was  representing the Cayman Islands.

The exhibit coincided with Cayman Art Week celebrations.
