Dart announced this week that 18-year-old Dylan Levy is the recipient of its 2025 William A. Dart Memorial Scholarship.
The William A. Dart Memorial Scholarship is granted on an annual basis to one university scholar through a competitive and blind selection process in which the applications are reviewed solely on the basis of academic achievements, merit, community involvement and the perceived future impact the applicant will have in society.
A graduate of John Gray High School, Levy completed his A Levels with exceptional A* grades at Cayman Prep & High School. He has been accepted to the University of Bath in England and is expected to begin his bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences in the fall.
Levy says he’s been interested in the healthcare industry, and specifically the human body, since he was young, when his father was injured in an accident.
“Witnessing the medical care that aided his recovery sparked a deep respect for the healthcare system,” he said.
He said that experience and a genuine sense of curiosity to learn more about medicine and the differing roles of healthcare professionals has been integral in shaping his life.
During his A-Level studies, Levy completed an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) study on the extent of influence artificial intelligence has had in the healthcare industry. He said the EPQ reinforced his “desire to pursue a field where biology and chemistry combine to drive innovation and produce life-changing outcomes”.
In addition to his academic achievements, Levy currently serves as chairperson of the Leo Club and is a member of the Cayman Youth Choir. He has volunteered at the Cayman Islands Cancer Society and, in 2024, was given the opportunity to intern at Health City Cayman Islands.
“These experiences opened my eyes to how medical professionals work together to deliver life-saving care,” he said.
Glenda McTaggart, senior manager of education programmes at Dart, said 45 applications for the William A. Dart Memorial Scholarship were received this year.
“Each applicant’s story is incredibly inspiring,” she said. “Some of these students are so driven and ambitious and have a clear vision of where they want to go in life, and those career choices have the potential to be extraordinarily impactful on the Cayman Islands community as a whole.”
Dart Chief Executive Officer Mark VanDevelde said, “Dylan has consistently achieved strong academic results and demonstrated a clear commitment to supporting his community, which are leadership qualities we value in our applicants. We wish him the very best as he takes the next step in his education.”
