Two people remain in hospital with serious injuries following a collision involving a motorcycle and a police vehicle in Bodden Town early in the morning on 13 Sept.
Police say the incident happened just before 2am, when a marked RCIPS vehicle was heading west along Bodden Town Road, responding to an emergency call. At the same time, a motorcycle carrying both a rider and a pillion passenger was travelling east in the opposite lane.
According to investigators, the motorcycle appeared to veer into oncoming traffic and struck the right side of the police vehicle. The impact forced the police car off the road and into a ditch. Both the rider and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries. They were taken by ambulance to hospital, where they are now receiving treatment.
The two officers in the police vehicle were also injured in the collision. They were transported to hospital as a precaution, treated for what police describe as minor injuries, and later released.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service confirmed that the driver of the police vehicle was breath-tested at the scene, in line with RCIPS policy and the Traffic Act (2023 Revision). The test returned a reading of 0.00%.
Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
In keeping with standard procedure, the Office of the Ombudsman has also been notified and will provide oversight throughout the investigative process. Senior RCIPS leaders said they will continue to monitor the health and welfare of everyone involved.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Bodden Town Police Station at 947-2220. Anonymous tips can be shared through the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, the RCIPS website, or via Cayman Crime Stoppers, either online or through the mobile app.

Glad to see the breathalyser was used at the accident, unlike the Cabinet Minister who escaped this altogether.
