Make pedestrian crossings safer

On West Bay Road pedestrian crossings, it may have already been said, but: There needs to be, at a minimum, a delay in when the flashing yellow is first on for motorists and the pedestrian has the go-ahead to enter the roadway.

Many times, I am approaching the crossing and the pedestrian hits the button and steps into traffic in one motion, not giving the motorist a chance in the world of stopping before entering the crosswalk. Not to mention, the risk of getting rear-ended.

It is very difficult to see the flashing lights at the crossings during the day because the lights are yellow. Moreover, pedestrians using the crossings often press the button and cross, expecting the traffic to stop instantaneously. Although the current crossings are a good start, I believe that crossings used in the US and UK as described in the Compass would solve both problems.
