Children and adults alike were treated to the sights, sounds and tastes of Christmas this week as The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman unveiled its full-sized gingerbread house in the lobby of the luxury hotel.
The fully edible construction, built to resemble a traditional Caymanian cottage, was constructed entirely from scratch and took executive pastry chef Camilla Testa and her international team more than 1,000 hours to complete.
Christmas decorations
The gingerbread house contains 2,000 gingerbread tiles, 100 litres of royal icing, 1,000 decorative candies and 60 kilos of chocolate as well as a real chocolate fountain. Contained within the cinnamon-and-clove smelling interior are all sorts of Christmas-themed creations, including Christmas cakes, Christmas presents, carol singers and Christmas ingredients for a Christmas kitchen.

Children (and adults) can visit the gingerbread house and have their photographs taken on the porch armchair wearing some of the provided festive accessories if they wish, for the perfect holiday selfie.
Guests and visitors were treated to some festive treats during the official opening including sugar and cinnamon cookies, hot chocolates and hot cider with cinnamon and rosemary. The gingerbread house will be open for visitors throughout the festive season until early January.
