A 60-year-old man from Canada died after experiencing difficulties while resurfacing from a dive off the waters of West Bay Dock on Saturday, 10 Jan.
A Cayman Islands Coast Guard duty team pulled the man from the water after the alarm was raised, but he lost consciousness on the diving boat.
Crew members and a Coast Guard sailor battled to revive the man as he was transported to shore.
He was rushed to the Anthony S. Eden Hospital but was later pronounced dead by doctors.
The incident happened just before 9am.
It is the second water-related death of the year after Thorr Emile Nickelson, who was 42 and lived in West Bay, died on Saturday, 3 Jan.
He failed to resurface while swimming near ‘Big Channel’, in the Barkers Key area.
Nickelson was rescued from the water by the Coast Guard, but was later pronounced dead by doctors at the Anthony S. Eden Hospital.
