Apex Gymnastics has completed its first appearance at a club level competition, sending a delegation of eight athletes to the Presidential Classic in Orlando, Florida.
The event, held from 13-16 Feb., featured seven female gymnasts and one male gymnast representing the Cayman-based club.
The team secured several podium finishes across multiple divisions. In the Level 1 category, Chiara Fajette took second place on floor, while Scarlett Jasper earned second on beam and third-place finishes on both the uneven bars and floor.
Kate Murphy led the Level 2 group by placing first on the uneven bars while Lily McCarty, in the Level 3 division, placed fourth on both the uneven bars and floor, and Lillian Clemens-Orr recorded her highest score of the meet on vault.
Amelie Mungall competed in Level 4, finishing fifth on floor, while Level 6 gymnast Siena Clemens-Orr achieved personal best scores on the uneven bars and beam.
On the boys’ side, competing at Level 5, Reuben Bowden secured a sixth-place finish All Around. His standout performances included taking fourth on the parallel bars, along with fifth-place finishes on both rings and high bar.
‘Just the beginning’
Coach Madalina Gutu expressed her pride for the gymnasts making their debut at the competition, adding, “Competing for the first time at this level is a significant milestone, and they approached the event with focus, discipline and confidence.”
“Being part of a competition of this scale allowed them to see the standard of the sport at a higher level, learn from the experience, and gain valuable confidence. This exposure has been inspiring for the girls, and as they return to the gym, they do so with renewed motivation, clearer goals, and an even stronger drive to work harder, improve their skills, and continue developing as competitive gymnasts,” Gutu added.
Coach Kyle Perry, who also travelled with the team to work with the gymnasts, echoed the sentiments of Gutu, adding, “This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to keep building from here.”
