Three years after the Bob Soto Memorial Scuba Scholarship was launched to encourage young Caymanians to become dive instructors, four recipients describe how they are using the skills they've learned, not just in diving, but also in their academic and professional journeys.

Two young Caymanians were recently awarded scholarships to pursue training and possible careers in the dive industry. 

This week, discover how one young man used artificial intelligence to detect invasive lionfish. Or take a tour of the Cayman Spirits Co. and learn about ocean-aged rum.

The scholarship will be presented at the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame ceremony on Sept. 14 at the Grand Cayman Marriott. The scholarship is available to Caymanians or status holders with a scuba certification.

Bob Soto’s granddaughter Amanda and his wife Suzy Soto deliver a copy of the late dive pioneer’s biography to Governor Helen Kilpatrick this week.
