Plans to turn part of the Barkers peninsula into a national park, protected from development, have taken a step closer after the approval of 11 pieces of land on Grand Cayman and Little Cayman as the islands’ first protected areas.
A large parcel of Crown land in Little Cayman’s east interior is among six sites on the island nominated for Protected Area status under Cayman’s new National Conservation Law.
The final Legislative Assembly meeting of the Progressives-led government’s term in office will consider about 20 pieces of legislation covering issues, including public lands, crime and punishment, financial services and the protection of older residents.
