The gaming community united for the most anticipated video gaming event of the year – Gamers Bay 7, held 30 Sept. through 1 Oct.

Professional and amateur gamers alike converged at the John Gray High School gymnasium Saturday to compete for top prizes and bragging rights at the annual Gamers Bay event.

An ongoing legal battle between tech-giant Apple and Epic Games, the developers of Fortnite a popular multiplayer game, could have implications for gamers in Cayman.

Now in its fourth year, Gamers Bay is a two-day convention that gives players, young and old, the chance to try their skills at timeless classics such as Mortal Combat and Super Mario, as well as more modern games like Minecraft, Call of Duty and Fortnite.

Video games are not just child’s play any more. One of the first popular gaming consoles, the Atari 2600, is more than 40 years old and its original fans are well into adulthood.

A workshop at the University College of the Cayman Islands was put on by the organizers of Gamers Bay along with the Youth Services Unit and the Ministry of Education, and was inspired by the Gamers Bay computer game competition.

In conjunction with its annual convention and video game competition this Saturday, officials with Gamers Bay are touring Cayman government high schools this week.
