The planning board has refused to grant permission for several building projects including plans for new restaurants and houses next to the Scotiabank building near Grand Harbour roundabout.

Plans to permanently redirect traffic on the Grand Harbour roundabout have been put on hold two weeks after residents publicly voiced strong objections to the changes.

More than 100 residents attended the Opposition-hosted event at the Seafarers Association in Red Bay to discuss the proposed redirection of traffic on the Grand Harbour roundabout.

From 5 June, drivers exiting the Grand Harbour complex will no longer to be able to enter South Sound or Crewe Road from the roundabout, but instead must turn left onto Shamrock Road and then turn back at the next roundabout.

A report aimed at combatting the traffic bottlenecks at Grand Harbour includes a recommendation to build a new road to take pressure off the roundabout that is the scene of long daily tailbacks.

The National Roads Authority is installing a new traffic signal on South Sound Road in an effort to ease traffic on Crewe Road and Linford Pierson Highway during evening rush hour. The signal is expected to begin operating on 19 Aug.

The National Roads Authority will be conducting repairs and upgrades along the Grand Harbour Roundabout over the next few weekends. That work will begin on Sunday, Nov. 4.
