There is no question that bartenders in Cayman are making waves on the international stage.

The role of bartender has been elevated to the point where experts in their field are headhunted the world over, and establishments are paying big bucks for those who can bring the goods.

So, you’ve invited the gang around to your house for an evening of fun and beverages. The liquor cabinet is well stocked and you have all the necessary mixers. Everything is set, right? Not necessarily.

As a countdown to Sept. 20 continues, strange things are being plucked off grocery store shelves.

Four months of trials came down to two marathon days behind the bar for Cayman’s World Class Cocktails finalists, as mixologists vied for the opportunity to represent the islands in Mexico City.

Things are being shaken up at this year’s Seven Fathoms Cayman Rum Challenge at the 29th annual Taste of Cayman Food & Drink Festival. International competitors are on their way. Three U.S. mixologists will compete against some of Cayman’s finest at Taste of Cayman.
