Cayman appears to be in for some early “Christmas breezes” as a cold front is forecast to move into the northwestern Caribbean Thursday.

Persistent rain continued to drench Cayman on Tuesday, and forecasters from the Cayman Islands National Weather Service believe the inclement weather will continue through the end of the week.

Strong winds and rough seas are expected to envelop Cayman over the next few days, the natural result of a high-pressure system currently building over the southeast United States. A small craft warning is in effect.

Several countries are preparing for a serious impact from Hurricane Irma. An advisory from the U.S. National Hurricane Center on Monday showed the hurricane heading toward the Leeward Islands and potentially striking Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Cuba.
