Grand Court Judge Richard Williams has denied instructing court staff to withhold from the public documents relating to a judicial review of Governor Martyn Roper's use of his constitutionally granted reserve powers.

It is the public, not the Compass, that suffers when government charges fees for records, or resists making them easier to access. To be clear, this newspaper will continue paying fees to access public documents; reporters will continue to monitor the promised implementation of digital records.

Cayman’s push to computerize its court records will not be completed this year.
