This week David Wolfe Photography handed over another $30,000 toward the Hurricane Ivan recovery efforts.
This makes $60,000 the total funds raised so far from the sale of the 2005 calendar.
The calendar project has been warmly embraced by Cayman’s corporate and local retail sectors. Many of Cayman’s top businesses generously sponsored the project and have used the 2005 calendar to mail to clients all over the world.
‘The businesses who stepped up to the plate and sponsored the calendar should be reminded that they made this project and the donations to recovery possible’, commented Melissa Wolfe, Project Coordinator. ‘We are equally pleased that many of the corporate sponsors used the calendar to promote the Cayman Islands by sending it out to their overseas clients. Recipients all over the world will have 12 months of beautiful images of the Cayman Islands. They will also know that the gift was sent by a company that supports community-based initiative’.
To further promote the Cayman Islands, the project is in urgent need of some volunteers to help sell the remaining calendars to cruise ship tourists at the North and South terminals. This untapped revenue stream will hopefully disburse the remaining calendars, which will result in yet another donation to the recovery efforts.
‘Unfortunately, the sales we hoped to generate from the www.ivan.ky website were disappointing. If we get the volunteer help needed, we can recover low website sales, sell out of the calendar altogether and maximize another donation to recovery’, adds Melissa Wolfe.
Locally, the 2005 calendar has been a true success story, with David Wolfe contributing photos covering all three islands and all five districts in Grand Cayman and Christine Roenspiess of Brac Reef Resort contributing underwater photos. Each month features a photo highlighting the beauty of Cayman with smaller photos focusing on nation rebuilding, corporate strength and community togetherness. While not the main focus, select damage photos were also included. The photos featured in the calendar can be seen at www.ivan.ky.
The 2005 calendars are available locally at Hobbies and Books, Kirks, Fosters Food Fair, Breezes by the Bay, and other retail outlets. Calendars can also be purchased through the three Rotary Clubs of Grand Cayman or online at www.ivan.ky, a website with secure credit card facilities set up specifically to promote the calendar and raise money for recovery.
