WB dock contract awarded

Leader of Government Business and Minister of Tourism McKeeva Bush has confirmed a US$3 million contract has been awarded to Misener Marine Construction Inc. for construction of the finger pier at the West Bay Cruise Dock.

Mr. Bush also said he had been granted permission from Cabinet for the coastal works.

He said the dock would be environmentally friendly, allowing the free movement of sand underneath.

Misener Marine, out of Tampa, Florida, has just completed the marine works part of the Royal Watler Cruise Terminal project in George Town.

Mr. Bush said he could not confirm when the West Bay project will begin and before a decision on this is made he will call another meeting with West Bay residents to discuss the issue.

The West Bay cruise facility is to be built on a site near the entrance to Northwest Point Road and will allow cruise tenders to bring passengers from George Town Harbour to West Bay. This will alleviate some of the congestion that occurs downtown on cruise ship days.

Also planned for the cruise facility are custom and immigration facilities, offices, a first aid station, restrooms, a bus and taxi parking area and various shops and kiosks.
