Monster of a party planned for students

Local entertainment website MyMonster.ky will host a spring break party series starting this Saturday, 5 March.

Called SPF 2005 – which stands for Spring Party Fest – the event is in honour of Students for Caribbean Hurricane Relief, a University of Pennsylvania group who will be on island volunteering on the relief effort.

‘When we were approached by Katrina Jurn – a proactive Caymanian abroad herself – our first reaction was to help the students gain sponsorships. They already had quite a bit of help from Maples and Calder, but we attained sponsorships for their everyday costs like food and transportation,’ said Searlina Bodden, creative director Monster Media.

On top of those efforts, Monster Media’s online portal MyMonster.ky will host four spring break events. After being welcomed at the airport with leis and T-shirts on Saturday at 2, the students will attend a welcome reception at Calico Jack’s at 8pm and then an official Welcome Party at Club Chameleon starting at 9pm.

On Sunday, 6 March, Kaibo is the site for Splashdown where the students invite the public to join them at the popular North Side spot, playing beach volleyball, riding jet skis and battling it out at tug-o-war.

On Wednesday, 9 March, Miami-based DJ Renegade will be on island for the Move It or Lose It Reggae Jam at Club Chameleon. The students will be joined by University of Tampa spring breakers for this bash, which will showcase the latest reggae, soca and hip hop music.

The last event of SPF 2005 is the Fire and Ice Farewell Party where Renegade will bring down the house once more for a wet fete-style reggae and soca jam on the sparkling water side. Everyone who arrives in red or white before 11 gets free entry. Organisers state that the location will remain undisclosed due to surprise elements in the works.

‘I hope to see everyone come out to these events and show this cause some support. At Monster Media, we honour youth activism and enthusiasm. We feel honoured to not only be able to offset costs for these students but to show them a good time as well,’ stated Ms Bodden.
