Cruise visitor decision vindicated

For many years there have been some in the tourist industry who felt that Government would harm our stay over tourism if we vigorously pursued the cruise ship industry.

Nonetheless, the Honourable McKeeva Bush, Leader of Government Business and Minister of Tourism had enough vision to see that the two facets of this vital industry could co-exist quite happily.

The general concept has been that cruise ship passengers do not spend much money, but I am sure that the storekeepers of George Town, the taxi drivers, dive operators and many others will tell you a different story.

Now, as it turns out, the honourable minister has been vindicated. Thank God we have a thriving cruise ship industry because our stayover sector has been greatly impacted due to hurricane Ivan’s damage to so many of our hotels and condos. Remember the old adage; never put all your eggs in one basket.
