New CD an open invitation from High Tide

Open Invitation, a new CD by Shane Allenger (lead vocals, percussion, background vocals) and Sean Hennings (guitars, bass, drums, percussion, background vocals), is more than just its pretty packaging.

Shane and Sean have been writing songs and playing together in bands since 1984. They formed Hi Tide in 1994.

The CD features the vocal artistry and instrumentations of this duo of gifted musicians, rendering their original compositions.

The CD allows a peek at the live recording of ‘Miss You’ a beautifully plaintive song sung by Shane, accompanied by Sean, on acoustic guitar, and himself, on Congas.

Shane has lived and worked in Nashville, Tennessee, where he performed regularly on TNN with many country greats such as Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Nicolette Larson and Randy Travis. Shane says that some of his singing and song writing inspiration come from Sting, Annie Lennox, Peter Gabriel, Michael McDonald and James Ingram.

Musically, Sean has not been idle either: having spent time in Hollywood, California, honing his drumming and guitar-playing skills, at the popular Musicians Institute of Technology.

Sean says his drumming style has been influenced by master technicians like Steve Gadd, Dave Weckel, Stewart Copeland and Carlton Barrett, of Bob Marley and The Wailers fame.

Hi Tide has been busy playing full time in Cayman, but has taken time out to perform with, and open for, the likes of Bon Jovi, Jimmy Cliff, Third World, Shabba, The Jeff Healy Band and Garbage.

In 1997, Hi Tide received runner-up honours at the Rhythms of The Caribbean Competition, sponsored by Island Records and The New Yorker Magazine. Since then, this amazing pair has represented The Cayman Islands at The Summer Concert Series in Boston, The Caribbean Tourism Convention in Aruba and the 1999 EARTH Awareness Festival in Live Oak, Florida. Their song, Unity was also chosen as the theme song for the Earth Awareness Festival 2000. To date, Hi Tide has released seven albums: Change, Begin Again, Unplugged Classics, Unplugged Classics 2, A Cayman Christmas, Merry Christmas from Hi Tide and Open Invitation – their latest release.

In 2000, two songs from, Begin Again: ‘That’s what I’d do’ and ‘In your kiss’ received regular top-40 air play on radio stations in the USA, and they have also been featured as import of the week on Westwood One’s top 100 countdown.

This latest of Hi Tide’s albums is a compilation of the pair’s original music, which presents us with listening music we can enjoy dancing to.

The CD’s list price is CI$ 19, but it is offered online at, for the special price of $15 for two.
