Mr. Adrian Odell was recently admitted as an attorney by Mr. Justice Alexander Henderson in the Grand Court on the application of Walkers.
Mr. Odell was introduced to the Court by Mr. Angus Foster, head of litigation at Walkers. Mr. Foster explained to the Court that Mr. Odell holds both UK and South African citizenship and was educated at the University of Cape Town where he obtained both BA and LLB degrees, the latter with six distinctions and a position on the Dean’s Merit List, states a press release.
After training with a one of the largest firms in South Africa in general commercial and corporate law, Mr. Odell’s increasing familiarity with the use of offshore structures and entities resulted in his transfer to an associated firm in the Isle of Man. While working in the Isle of Man, Mr. Odell was involved in planning and implementing offshore finance and investment structures including collective investment schemes and SPVs.
Mr. Foster stated that Mr Odell developed a detailed understanding of the significance and use of offshore tax efficient jurisdictions generally as well as anti-money laundering legislation.
Mr. Odell then moved to work as a senior associate at the largest firm in the British Virgin Islands in their mutual funds and regulatory department.
Mr. Odell worked there for approximately four years on the full range of offshore funds and investment vehicles including regulatory and compliance issues. He was also involved in training and mentoring junior associates.
Mr. Odell worked with a well-known firm in Jersey, Channel Islands, where he was head of the firm’s funds department and also a director of and key contact person for that firm’s office in Mauritius. Mr. Odell was again involved in a wide range of offshore related work, particularly investment funds and was also involved in assisting the firm’s in-house funds administration company. In addition, Mr. Odell was an active contributor to fund regulatory reform by the Jersey Government and also participated in conferences as a speaker in Jersey, London and New York.
Mr. Odell is admitted in South Africa, England & Wales and the BVI.
Mr. Foster said that Mr. Odell was joining his firm’s corporate and international finance department as a senior associate and said that he and his partners were delighted to welcome Mr. Odell to Walkers in light of his extensive experience and expertise in offshore work and investment funds in particular.
Mr. Odell was welcomed to the Cayman Bar by Mr. Justice Henderson, who reminded him of his duties as an Officer of the Court, and wished him an enjoyable and rewarding time with Walkers.
