An open house will be held this Wednesday for all contractors, construction workers, vendors and suppliers who wish to be involved with the new Camana Bay project.
The event will go on from 9am until 7pm in the jobsite trailers off the Esterley Tibbetts Highway.
‘We’ll stay even later than that if there are people still here,’ said Cameron Graham, vice president of construction for Dart Realty.
Those attending the open house will have an opportunity to learn more about Camana Bay and to view project drawings and schedules.
They will also be able to meet members of the Camana Bay project team and ask questions.
With more than 500,000 square feet of building under roof and another 500,000 in parking structures in phase one alone, Mr. Graham said there is a lot of work available.
‘We’re going to need everyone we can get,’ he said. ‘We’re making a genuine effort to try and involve everyone.’
The $200-million first phase will be the largest build-out in the history of the Cayman Islands, Dart Realty vice president John Papesh said recently.
The first three buildings of the first phase will include a four-storey, 80,000 square-foot corporate office building, a six-plex cinema, and an international school, all scheduled for completion during the fourth quarter of 2006.
The rest of phase one, which is slated for completion by the end of 2007, will include buildings for restaurants, apartments, retail shops, professional offices and the parking structures.
McAlpine Ltd. was awarded the contract for the corporate office building and has now started that project.
The bidding process on the cinema and school will begin soon, Mr. Graham said.
Individual tradesmen and other construction workers are also encouraged to attend the open house to register their names for work.
‘We’ll take their names and keep them on file and give it to the contractors when they come on board,’ said Mr. Graham.
