Obviously we don’t have an effective enough justice system to keep the criminals of the streets.
As a young Caymanian, I am seeing the future of Cayman going down the drain.
Why is it most of the crime we hear about today is being done by our youth?
I am sure I am not the only one who wonders why we have murderers, rapists, etc walking our streets.
Our justice system needs to realize that having prisoners serve so little time for such extreme crimes and being able to have all the luxuries of the outside world will not reform them in any way. It seems like the prison we have is a hotel and not somewhere for punishment.
We hear about this work release program where convicts who have not yet finished serving their time are back into the public. That is unheard of anywhere else in the world.
We seem to be mixing it up with community service where prisoners are supposed to be watched.
Here in Cayman we have them working like they are being rewarded.
If our criminals are having such a good time in prison, what will make them want not to go back?
If Cayman wants to be a safe place again, we seriously have to do something about the justice system of the Cayman Islands.
