Two volunteer adult instructors with the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps attended a 10-day regional training course held recently in Barbados.
Staff Sergeant Donovan Hyre and Sergeant Winston Gall were steeped in the finer details of leadership, first aid, map and compass, methods of instruction, unit administration, service writing and drill, says a press release from the Cadet Corps.
The Potential Cadet Officers Course was hosted by the Barbados Defence Force at the Barbados Workers Union Labour College.
Both SSgt. Hyre and Sgt. Gall, in commenting on the experience, felt that it had better prepared them to more effectively carry out their assigned duties within the local Cadet Corps.
In congratulating them on their successfully representing the Cayman Islands, Colonel Phillip Hyre, Commandant of the Cayman Islands Cadet, also took time out to express the Corps’ appreciation to their respective employers, HM Prison Service and the Civil Aviation Authority, for their corporate citizenship in allowing time away from their regular duties so the volunteers could attend the overseas training.
Consequent on this achievement, SSgt. Hyre and Sgt. Gall are expected to be heavily involved in the 2005 Annual Cayman Islands Cadet Camp scheduled for East End in July.
