Cable & Wireless (Cayman Islands) Ltd has appointed a new Vice President Mobile.
Nicola Buder, who has over 10 years experience in the telecommunications industry, joined Cable & Wireless last year and soon found herself working on the restoration project following the devastation of Hurricane Ivan. This new promotion will see her responsible for developing products and services for the mobile market, states a press release.
Originally from New Zealand, Ms Buder has worked with leading telecommunications companies including Nokia, Ericsson, Lucent and Orange in Australia, Europe and Africa. Her area of speciality is implementing programs of operational change. Following the merger of Orange and France Telecom, Ms Buder managed two networks in Africa: Botswana and Madagascar, leading them both to achieve global standards within 18 months.
Following a successful first year since liberalisations of the mobile telecommunications market, Ms Buder will now focus on the mobile customer experience to maintain and build upon market share in Cayman’s competitive arena.
Cable & Wireless has established itself as the market leader in implementing new technologies that directly benefit the customer’s lifestyle, for example the company was the first mobile provider to offer the Blackberry and is the only mobile provider here to offer the Hiptop. These products go beyond the traditional mobile phone, offering a truly mobile office with email and calendar functions.
Ms Buder considers continuing to lead in this area as crucial to further success: ‘Mobile technology has the potential to change the way we work and play. I would like to encourage mobile to be more than a phone, but a means to make your life simpler on the go. These days we demand more information anywhere, anytime and that’s our focus. We aim to make people truly bMobile,’ she said.
‘We are very pleased to appoint Nicola Buder our new VP Mobile. Her extensive experience in development and strategic direction within the mobile telecommunications industry will be invaluable to Cable & Wireless. We expect Nicola will be able to lead our mobile division as we continue to strive to offer leading technology and competitive prices for our customers,’ commented Ian Tibbetts, Chief Operating Officer at Cable & Wireless.
A keen sportswoman, Ms Buder is enjoying her time in the Cayman Islands. She particularly enjoys the competitive business environment and the opportunity to take part in sporting events, such as the Brac Triathlon she recently competed in. ‘Being from a small island nation, the feeling of Cayman is similar to home,’ she comments.
