Time to praise youth

As we read the papers and listen to the many discussions and disturbing negative remarks made about the youth of the Cayman Islands, it appears as if some people believe that they are all lost to crime, drugs, gangs, violence and sexual immorality or abandoned by the community.

However, in the midst of all the pessimism, we believe a spotlight should be shone on the youth for what they are doing right and the churches and various other organizations for the major roles they play in assisting the youth in making positive and life transforming decisions.

Many groups invest in and facilitate programmes that hundreds of youth attend on a weekly basis. These organizations should be commended for their commitment to our youth and families and for the positive and important roles they play within our community.

The Cayman Islands have many outstanding youths who have chosen to fulfil their destinies in Christ. These young people have chosen to abandon the sinking ship of peer pressure, drugs and crime.

We must pay tribute to the many other organizations in our community that are making a positive difference in the lives of our youths as they are helping to produce many outstanding young athletes, musicians, dancers, educated and talented youths striving to overcome many adversities.

We firmly believe it is time we start to pray, praise and encourage the youth of Cayman. They need to know that adults, parents, teachers and the church are proud of them and support them.
