The annual change-of-administration banquet of the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens was recently held at the Wharf Restaurant.
Officers for 2005-2006 are: President Norma McField, First Vice-President Gail Johnson; Second VP Dawn Russell and Third VP Cheryl Bell.
The new secretary is Gina Barnes and treasurer, Denise Ashby.
One-year directors are Blanca Welds and Paulette Conolly-Bailey. Two-year directors are Dawn Hattle and Judith Witter.
The tamer is Natalie Webster; tail twister, Cynthia Chukwueze and membership director is Kerry Nixon. The immediate past-president is Dorothy Davis.
With the theme ‘Enabling and empowering for a Stronger Community’, keynote speaker Deanna Look Loy, Director of Children and Family Services, challenged members of the all-female club to continue championing women’s causes.
She said many answers in regard to building a stronger community are in enabling and empowering females.
‘Service clubs can work collaboratively with the government to address many of these issues,’ she said.
The director said a need still existed to create a law-reform committee to identify clauses in legislation which may discriminate against women.
She quoted Gertrude Mongella, secretary general of the fourth World Conference on Women: ‘It is time for men and women to rededicate themselves to work together for the removal of all obstacles to the advancement of women.’
