Prospect Drive solution goes round

Frustrated residents think road planners have come up with a roundabout solution to a straightforward problem.

Residents near Prospect Drive and Holly Drive believe more speed bumps offer a better solution to neighbourhood traffic woes than the recently installed mini-roundabout.

On Friday, the National Roads Authority met residents at the new roundabout to discuss concerns about its effectiveness.

One Prospect Drive resident said neighbourhood representatives had been campaigning for speed bumps.

Three had been installed, but so had the roundabout, which, he claimed, had not helped the situation.

‘We don’t need the roundabout. What we need is more speed bumps,’ he said.

The roundabout had caused confusion among some motorists who found it difficult to negotiate, particularly when towing things like boat trailers, he said.

‘I think I speak for the majority of people around here when I say that everybody just wants it out,’ he said.

Prior to the new system, a simple stop sign had controlled the junction. No one had complained about that, he explained.

Another attendee said that making the roundabout slightly smaller might make it easier for traffic.

Roads authority Superintendent John Ebanks said the speed bumps did not seem to help, leading to the decision to install the roundabout to acheiev traffic control.
