Cayman women win gold

Cayman Islands National Women Basketball team are champions again, winning the gold medal in the Island Games. Gibraltar felt the power and finesse of our ladies going under by 13 points. It was such an all round outstanding performance throughout the tournament that the Cayman women took a clean sweep of the awards. Final score was Cayman Islands 65, Gibraltar 52. Top scorers were Merta Day 20 points and Eva Aiken 14 points. Karmilla Nagy was voted Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Things did not go so well for Cayman men’s team as they had to settle for silver, losing to Bermuda in the final match. Cayman Islands 74 points, Bermuda 81. Main scorers for Cayman Islands were Antonio Thompson 25 points, Colin Anglin 18 points and Jorge Ebanks 12 points. However, pride of place went to Dwight O’Garro who won the most points award.
