Hurricane Centre predicts Dennis path & more

The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Dennis, is located 389 miles ESE of Cayman Brac and is moving W-NW at approximately 15 mph.

Cayman residents should continue to monitor the progress of this system.

The forecast calls for partly cloudy to cloudy skies with widely scattered showers and some thunder today.

Look for overcast conditions with moderate to heavy showers. Thunder can be expected by late afternoon over Cayman Brac and by tonight over Grand Cayman.

Winds will be north to northeast at 15 knots to 20 knots through this evening over Grand Cayman, becoming north to northwest at 20 knots to 30 knots late tonight.

Over the sister islands, winds will be north to northeast at 15 knots to 20 knots this morning, becoming northerly this evening at 20 knots to 30 knots. Winds will increase further, nearing 50 knots late tonight.

Seas will be moderate to rough with wave heights of four feet to six feet through this afternoon, becoming rough this evening with wave heights between five feet and seven feet, with further deterioration, by tonight with wave heights reaching nine feet to 12 feet or higher.

All boats should be in or entering safe harbour and should remain there until the passage of the storm.

High temperatures will reach 31C / 88F. The low will reach 26C / 79F.
