Court bill tabled

A bill to amend the Court of Appeal Law and widen the grounds of appeal from decisions of the Grand Court was laid on the table in Legislative Assembly.

Among the new sections it inserts is one that provides for a sentence to be reviewed where it appears to the Attorney-General that it is unduly lenient.

The bill was laid before the house as a white paper on Wednesday by Acting Attorney-General Cheryl Richards.

That course had been taken to give interested parties a period of time to review and comment on the bill, the House was told.
