Room stock looking good

Room stock availability is looking sunny for Christmas

According to the most recent room stock projections from the Department of Tourism by this coming December the Cayman Islands are to be at 81 per cent of pre-Ivan figures for licensed guest rooms.

These figures cover rooms in hotels, condos and guest houses on all three islands.

Statistics show that there are 2,149 licensed bedrooms on all three islands (this includes hotels, apartments and guest houses). This accounts for about 41.5 per cent of pre-Ivan room stock. By September the projections are for 58 per cent of pre-Ivan room stock to be licensed and up and running on all three islands.

Projections for November are for 72 per cent and December, 81 per cent of the pre-Ivan figure of just over 5,000 rooms.

Director of Tourism Pilar Bush states that airlift frequency should improve in line with room stock. ‘At this time of year, several carriers reduce their frequencies based on historically lower traffic in September and October. However, we expect them to ramp back up in time for the height of winter 2006.’
