The Public Transport Board unanimously approved, without any changes, the increase in fares requested by the Taxi Tour Operators Association at a meeting held on Thursday.
According to a press release from Government Information Services, the increases will take effect 1 September 2005.
‘I am pleased that the Public Transport Board met and considered the matter. A decision has been communicated to the Taxi Tour Operators Association, as I promised during our industry meeting less than two weeks ago,’ Minister for Tourism, Environment, Investment and Commerce Charles Clifford said.
The week-long period before the fares come into effect on 1 September enables all relevant parties and entities, including cruise lines calling into Grand Cayman and members of the Cayman Islands Tourism Association, to be informed of the changes.
The fare increases are outlined below.
US$ (per person) Dock – Royal Palms – gone up from $3 to $4; Dock – Beach Club – gone up from $3 to $4; Public Beach, Sea Grape, gone up from $4 to $5; Courtyard Marriott, Cemetery Beach – gone up from $5 to $6; Yacht Club, Morgan’s Harbour – gone up from $6 to $7; Turtle Farm – Hell (only) gone up from $10 (round trip) to $12 (round trip); Spotts – GT – gone up from $4 to $5; Spotts – all beaches – $1 extra on all revised fares.
Island Tours: Turtle Farm – Hell – Rum Company etc. – 1.5 to 2 hour tours – gone up from $15 to $20;
All tours from Spotts gone up from $20 to $25.
