Walk to Remember Sunday

The Our Angels Foundation’s second annual Walk to Remember Walk/Run to support families who have lost loved ones will take place this Sunday.

Walkers start at 5.30am and runners at 6.30am from the Wharf Restaurant. Participants will continue to the Sea Grape Grill for a cabaret breakfast featuring legendary Jamaican jazz-cabaret singer Karen Smith.

The event begins with a moment for reflection and a special candle lighting in memory of all who have passed on.

‘Whether you walk or run the five-and-a-half miles, two miles, or just a couple hundred feet is not important,’ said Donna Myrie, Chair of Our Angels Foundation. ‘What matters is that you have taken this time to join with friends – new and old – and family who are walking the same journey with you. The aim of the event is to join hands and hearts. Everyone is welcome to join this event to show their unity with the families and friends who have lost that special someone.’

The cost is CI$15, which includes a T-shirt and the cabaret breakfast.

Water stops will be every two miles. Participants are also encouraged to bring a candle as well as a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and extra water.

This is the second Our Angels Foundation Walk to Remember. The first event took place in 2003. Last year’s event was cancelled as a result of Hurricane Ivan.

Funds raised will help Our Angels foundation continue its mission of being a shoulder to lean on for bereaved families and friends. Organizers are encouraging friends, family members and businesses to make pledges in memory of loved ones.

To register or for more information, contact Donna Myrie at 916-1740, Heather MacVicar at 916-7745 or Priscilla Powery at 927-4213, or alternatively, sign up at Le Classique.
