Well-known Caymanian artist Al Ebanks is turning his George Town studio into a gallery.
The move will provide a showcase for other talented artists.
Mr. Ebanks is a founding member of Native Sons group, which was established in 1996 to promote local artists.
His works were recently chosen by The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman for the hotel’s permanent collection.
The newly opened gallery recently hosted its first exhibition, Raw, which included several paintings from local artists such as Chris Christian, Wray Banker, Leulan Bodden and AL Ebanks.
‘Due to the success of that show, part proceeds of the money collected will be donated to the Women’s Crisis Centre,’ said Mr. Ebanks.
Al Ebanks, the second of seven children born to Mr. Fred Ebanks and Mrs Vernel Clarke has been dabbling with paints and sculpturing for as long as he can remember.
He describes his work as a fresh twist of abstract and impressionist styles.

As a result of his hard work his art pieces are displayed at the National Gallery, the Cayman National Museum and in other corporate and private establishments.
Also a practicing interior decorator, Mr. Ebanks has his own business that specialises in installation of carpets, tiles and vinyl.
Encouraging others who want to make a career in the art world, Mr. Ebanks said, ‘Always go for it and believe in yourself no matter what people have to say. There is a lot of encouragement out there so really pursue your dreams.’
The galley is on Shedden Road behind the Phillips Electrical building.
