Rita disrupts travel

Travel plans were thrown into disarray yesterday because of Tropical Storm Rita’s passage by South Florida.

Cayman Airways cancelled two flights on its Grand Cayman/Miami route yesterday (Tuesday), as did American Airlines, because of the stormy weather.

However, flights were expected to be operating normally today (Wednesday), subject to Miami Airport being operational. It is advisable to check with your airline before proceeding with travel plans.

Yesterday KX 102 departing Grand Cayman at 7:40am was cancelled and KX 103 departing Miami at 11:15am was cancelled, said a press release.

However, at the time of going to press, Cayman Airways anticipated that yesterday’s flights KX 104 departing Grand Cayman at 12:35pm and KX 107 departing Miami at 8:55pm would operate on schedule.

All passengers scheduled to travel on KX 102 and KX 103 were to be protected on KX 104 and KX 107 Tuesday, with no charges for this change, the press release said.

American Airlines Flight 561 scheduled to depart Miami for Grand Cayman at 12.41pm yesterday was cancelled, as was Flight 1018 scheduled to leave Grand Cayman for Miami at 1.51pm.

According to the American Airlines website www.aa.com, if you are ticketed to or from Miami on September 18 to 22 and your ticket was issued no later than 18 September, you may change your flight to travel as late as 22 September. No fee or penalty will apply.

Because of the uncertainty of the weather situation in the South Florida area Cayman Airways passengers are advised to check with the Reservations Department or the Cayman Airways website at www.caymanairways.com for the latest and most accurate flight information.
