The location and development of a new national farmers market is being dealt with, Leader of Government Business Kurt Tibbetts told the Cabinet press briefing.
The market is just one of the items making up an agricultural development plan being moved ahead, Mr. Tibbetts told the Friday briefing.
The plan would also deal with the creation of agro-tourism and review and make recommendations about farmers’ assistance programmes, said Mr. Tibbetts.
People had missed the farmers market and there were now more supermarkets accepting local produce, he said.
He hoped that by some time next year they would begin construction of the market place, which would take on a different concept from what had existed.
It might well encompass a location where the annual agricultural fair would be held, said Mr. Tibbetts.
