The accomplished opera singer and dentist may also be in a position of making a visit to the dentist more comfortable, that is, if he hits a few notes with his patients.

Although he says he does not sing to his patients, Dr. Marc Lamarre shares his many other talents with residents in the Cayman Islands.

At night, many times a year you can find Dr. Lamarre singing tenor with the well-known group.

A lover of the Cayman waters, Dr. Lamarre is also a certified scuba diver/instructor, avid underwater photographer, golfer, a trumpet and piano player, and father and grandfather.

Before making his way to Cayman over three years ago to fill in for Dr. Ironstone, Dr. Lamarre sang tenor in an opera house in Ottawa Canada.

‘When I came to Cayman I contacted the National choir director and they were delighted to have me join them. Since that time I have participated in a number of pieces such as the Mozart Requiem, Christmas concerts, and other classical shows.

With the apple not falling far from the tree, Dr. Lamarre said his father is also an accomplished opera singer along with several uncles and aunts.

Cutting his teeth on music notes, his singing career started from a very early age by singing in church, school and community choirs.

His big break came about 15 years ago when he joined a community choir back in his hometown Canada.

After a few years of singing with that choir he was recruited to sing with the opera as tenor for a number of years.

Even though Dr. Lamarre says he misses singing in the opera he also says he has found it very fulfilling being a member of the Cayman National Choir.

‘The choir is a good social group we enjoy each others company by participating in a number of other fun activities, he said.

Married to his wife Susan for 30 years, Dr. Lamarre has four children and two grand daughters.
