Close Brothers expands services

Close Brothers (Cayman) Limited has expanded its Fund Services and Client Accounting Department.

In August, Warren Keens was appointed director, Business Development and Funds Fiduciary, with other recent notable promotions and internal moves being Catherine O’Driscoll to head of the Fund Services and Client Accounting Department, Thiry Gordon to the deputy head of Funds Fiduciary and Douglas Curtis to manager of the Fund Services and Client Accounting Department, states a Close Brothers press release.

‘At Close Brothers we have a long tradition of backing good people and I am pleased to say that with these appointments and promotions we have found very dynamic people,’ said Linburgh Martin, Managing Director of Close Brothers (Cayman) Limited.

Mr. Keens

Mr. Keens is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a member of the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants and a Council member of the Cayman Islands Fund Administrators Association. Prior to joining Close, he headed up the Mutual Fund Department at HSBC Financial Services (Cayman) Limited.

His appointment focuses on two main areas of responsibility – business development and the provision of directors to mutual funds. ‘The business of fund directorships is expanding rapidly and Close Brothers (Cayman) Limited sees this as a growth sector with no slow down expected in the near term,’ he said. ‘Customer service will remain our priority and we will also actively market in Cayman and overseas.’

Ms O’Driscoll

Ms O’Driscoll’s previous post was manager of the department. She now heads up a team of 14 professionals. Ms O’Driscoll is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and is also a member of the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants.

‘It has been an exciting five years with Close Brothers, during which time we have established our fund services business in Cayman and become a well-recognised and respected service provider in the industry’ she said.

Ms Gordon

Ms Gordon was formerly the deputy head of Fund Services and Client Accounting.

She will work closely with Mr. Keens on the directorship side. Mr. Gordon is a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants. She joined Close Brothers (Cayman) Limited in June 2003.

Due to the consistent growth of the directorships and liquidations portfolio it became a necessity to separate these services into a standalone specialist business unit, hence the creation of the Funds Fiduciary Group. Ms Gordon will focus on providing the technical support needed to enhance the quality of fiduciary services provided whilst limiting risk exposure.

‘It has been both exciting and challenging during the past two and half years with Close Brothers. The creation of this new specialized unit illustrates the foresight of Close Brothers to capitalize on ideas that ensure a consistent high level of service to our clients. I am thrilled to be a part of this team and look forward to growing along with the Company during these exciting times,’ she said.

Mr. Curtis

Mr. Curtis was formerly senior fund accountant.

He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He recently passed level 1 of the AIMR CFA examinations and hopes to obtain his Chartered Financial Analyst designation within the next two years.

‘I am encouraged as business continues to grow after Hurricane Ivan,’ he said. ‘I am delighted with this promotion and, along with the great team at Close Brothers; I intend to continue to deliver the highest quality of service to our clients.’
