National Sports Week planned

‘Sports Alive! 2005’ will be celebrated with a National Sports Week, running from 3-10 December. The aim is to showcase individual sports, health and fitness associations and related businesses in their new, and often improved, facilities. It’s easy to join in, say organisers. Here’s how:

Each club, gym or association picks a day (or days) and time during the week to highlight its activities. The hope is to fill the Week, evenings included, with fun, matches, classes and/or tournaments that will attract new members and stimulate the interest of existing supporters.

Those in the sports supply business can take advantage of a special discount on merchandise for the Week. Charities can arrange special fundraising events at this time, such as a fun run/walk or dog walking morning, anything that will help promote healthy living, fitness and exercise.

It is envisaged that each sponsor(s) will play their part by providing banners and/or T-shirts or hosting a VIP area and, in the case of a corporation, by promoting the Week to their employees. The liaison for that will be left to the specific club or association to discuss with their sponsors. Organisers ask, however, that no charge for entry to the chosen event be made. This is a non-profit event. There is no fee for taking part in Sports Week.

The coordinators for the event are Ms. Kim Rough-Moses, Ms. Merta Day and Mr. Dean Watson.

Everyone is invited to join in this National event. It is planned to round off the week with a Sports Banquet on the night of Saturday, 10th December at which awards and presentations can be made.

‘Let’s all get together and show that Sports are Alive in the Cayman Islands in 2005!’ states a press release.
