Put Pedro on pedestal

Please allow me to express my concern about Pedro Castle.

Since coming to Cayman I have noticed that not a lot of attention is paid to promoting the country’s history; Pedro being a prime example.

The Government has spent an amount of money equivalent to the national budget of a small country restoring that very important part of Cayman’s past but has done little to promote it and make it an important part of visitors’ agendas.

It has great potential to be a dollar earner.

More important however is the saying that goes ‘If you don’t know where you are coming from, how can you know where you are going.’

How many young Caymanians have ever been to Pedro Castle?

How many know where the Museum is located?

It is important for all Caymanians to feel proud of their country’s history. This is a remarkable country when one looks at how fast it has risen.

This in itself could be the problem.

Caymanians boast of the fact that these islands are recognised as one of the world’s top financial centres. Yes, this is so, but how did this come about? This is what history teaches.

Please show how proud you are to be Caymanian. Find a way to restore this most important landmark and part of a rich history.
